Silent night! Holy night!

Original version with six verses

1
Silent night!
Holy night!
Everything sleeps; lonely wakes
Only the holy couple.
Fair boy in curly hair,
Sleep in heavenly peace!
Sleep in heavenly peace!

2
Silent night!
Holy night!
Son of God, oh how
love laughs from your divine mouth,
as the saving hour strikes us.
Jesus in your birth!
Jesus in your birth!

3
Silent night!
Holy night!
Which brought salvation to the world,
From heaven’s golden heights,
Let us see the fullness of grace,
Jesus in human form!
Jesus in human form!

4
Silent night!
Holy Night!
Where today all the power
of fatherly love poured out,
And as a brother embraced
Jesus the peoples of the world!
Jesus the peoples of the world!

5
Silent night!
Holy Night!
We have been thinking about it for a long time,
When the Lord freed us from the wrath
In the time of our fathers
Promised all the world protection!
Promised all the world protection!

6
Silent night!
Holy Night!
First announced to shepherds
Through the angels’ Alleluia,
It resounds loudly near and far:
Jesus the Savior is here!
Jesus the Savior is here!

A song goes around the world!

How the song found its way into the world has not been fully documented. However, it is clear that the legend of the mouse that gnawed on the bellows is not true.
